The bull has thrown his head back and opened his mouth to give a mating sound that can be heard for miles. It is similar to the sound of a trumpet or bugle. The sound arouses elk and other animals in the area to his presence. The Elk is in a grassy mountain meadow which is his favorite feeding ground.
His antlers were painted in very fine detail with light source to the right. His nape on his neck and fur was also done with detail. The background is out of focus to bring the elk in sharp focus. It is referenced from a photo on the web.
aka Sher'L I was born an Artist. It was in my genes. I am the Son of Elbert H. Porter, famous dinosaur sculptor. I studied art in high school and minored in art in college. For a short time I owned a sign shop. My profession is Lab. Tech. at industrial facilities. Now that I am retired, I plan on doing my passion which is Art and in particular, Oil Painting. Presently my interests are painting wildlife, landscapes, still life, etc.
